In 2013, I gave up trying to write books and instead turned to music to tell my stories. It began with a simple tune in one hand and accompaniment in the other. This, 11 years later, is the culmination of that venture: Septemundos. Seven worlds. A seven-movement work of orchestra, found sounds, and electronic soundscapes featuring the virtuosic talents of many of the friends, family, and colleagues that got me here.
Each movement tells a story- a Greek demigod battling his immortal nemesis ("Graecus"); a small tribe rising to power in the wilderness ("Tribus"); a band of adventurers traversing a strange world ("Incorporeus"); a group of heroes standing firm against a rising enemy ("Heroicus"); a team of pilots overcoming an invading alien force ("Stellatus"); a young nation surviving global war against all odds ("Tyrannicus"); and a future civilization exploring alternate realities ("Ignotus").
It is my hope that these worlds are made distinct through the field recordings, percussive and electronic gestures, and orchestrations and instrumentations I customized for each of them. A lot of thought went into how I could push the traditional Western orchestra toward unique musical spaces without leaving it behind - a more modern approach inspired by much of today's film music.
Suffice it to say, this album is a true passion project, the ultimate product of my childhood imagination and all of the creativity and collaboration that has transpired from it and since. A huge thanks must go to each and every person who has helped me in my musical journey since 2013- this undertaking truly could not have been accomplished without their guidance and encouragement.
